When you shop for furniture online, what do you actually see? For most buyers: a rendering, a stock photo, or a single hero shot. In our industry, a polished 3D render is cheap — a full detail page can be assembled in an afternoon. Real photos of the actual product, at scale, are the exception, not the rule.
Why the image is not the product
Renders don’t lie — they just don’t show the truth. Lighting is idealized, fabric is stretched clean, joints are hidden. Even real photo shoots can be rented: an entire set of “customer reviews” can be shot in a single studio against a dozen different backdrops. The buyer sees a home; the seller sees a set.
The reliable signal is not the photo. It’s the process. Does the supplier show you the factory? Do they send progress photos of your pieces — frame, upholstery, final QC — or only a catalog of other people’s furniture?
